Ben Miller was the show's first detective, DI Richard Poole

Death In Paradise fans have pointed out a glaring issue with the show’s portrayal of Saint Marie’s police station.

The BBC detective drama’s central location, the police station, has left viewers scratching their heads over a recurring oddity. This ‘issue’ has been encountered by every detective on the show, from DI Richard Poole (Ben Miller) to his successors including DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall), DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon), DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little), and soon-to-be DI Mervin Wilson played by Don Gilet.

Fans took to social media to express their confusion about what happens each night after the station shuts down and the detectives leave for drinks at Catherine’s bar or head home to unwind.

One eagle-eyed viewer raised a question on social media: “What about any prisoners who are in the cells? They seem to be left there in the dark with no access to food or drink or the bathroom facilities and unable to contact anyone if there was a kind of emergency.”

This observation sent shockwaves through the fan community, with many admitting they had never thought of it before, while others joked that this insight had “ruined” the show for them, reports Wales Online.

The popular TV series, Death In Paradise, is actually filmed in Guadeloupe, not the fictional Saint Marie. The police station is really the Presbytery, attached to the church of St Peter and St Paul in Deshaies.

Deshaies also doubles as the town of Honore. This fishing village on Basse-Terre island even offers location tours for fans seeking their own piece of paradise.

However, viewers will be gutted to learn that the detective’s iconic beach shack, home to lizard Harry too, isn’t a permanent fixture. The shack is constructed each season on Anse de la Perle Beach.

For UK fans, a visit to Beyond Paradise’s Shipton Abbott might be more feasible. The quaint town of Looe, Cornwall, serves as the real-life stand-in for Shipton Abbott, which is supposedly based in Devon.
