Death in Paradise exit ‘sealed’ as fans fear character is being replaced after familiar face returns
Death in Paradise made its epic return to screens tonight and saw new detective Mervin Wilson solving a murder on Saint Marie.
Death in Paradise fans think an exit could be on the cards for more than one character after the series returned on Friday night.
The episode saw DI Mervin Wilson (played by Don Gilet) trying his best to leave Saint Marie when the murder of a new police officer took place – and he couldn’t help but interfere with the case.
After passing the crime scene on his way to the airport, the detective noticed something suspicious about it, and he vowed to stay on the island until the case was solved.
While there, the Commissioner (Don Warrington) dropped a bombshell about DI Wilson’s mother, who had recently died, which made him question whether he actually wanted to stay in Saint Marie.
The episode also saw the return of beloved police officer JP Hooper (Tobi Bakare), who brought the Commissioner some bad news about his job.
Fans fear the Commissioner could be leaving
“Sergeant, Hooper, I thought you had a plane to catch,” the Commissioner asked.
“Yes, I do,” JP replied before dropping the bombshell. “But I wondered if I could have a chat with you. Have you got some time, sir?”
The Commissioner nodded as JP continued: “So, there are some things I found out about at the headquarters back in Jamaica. They loop me into these things, you know?
“I shouldn’t really be saying anything, sir, but after everything you have done for me, I thought it would be wrong if I didn’t.”
“They are looking to change some things here,” he added. “Streamlining and your position, Commissioner, they are going to dissolve it. I am so sorry, sir.”

Fans were thrilled to see JP return, but they have also expressed concern about whether he could replace Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackson).
Taking to social media, one fan asked: “I wonder if Naomi is leaving and JP is the new DS?”
It has also posed questions about the Commissioner’s fate and whether he will be fired from the Saint Marie police force.
One fan aired their concern: “Please tell me Don Warrington isn’t leaving. He’s been the core of the show since the pilot.”
“He can’t leave, I won’t have it,” another replied, while a third added: “If the Commissioner is getting the sack, does that mean he’s leaving?”
The synopsis for the rest pf the series teases: “As an unexpected foe attempts to enforce the unfathomable, Catherine (Elizabeth Bourgine), as Mayor, acts as the last line of defence in a battle to save the team as we know it.
“In an unexpected twist, Naomi (Shantol Jackson) finds herself at an emotional crossroads when an old flame from St Barnabas makes a surprising appearance on the island, while Darlene (Ginny Holder) becomes a mentor when a new officer joins the ranks, but is left questioning whether she’s the right person for the job.
“And with the opportunity to learn more about his mother’s life, Mervin begins to discover things may not be all they seem in Saint Marie. As everything he thought he knew unravels, will his life ever be the same again?”
