Death in Paradise fans issue demand as ITV detective unexpectedly appears after series cancellation
Death in Paradise viewers were left distracted as they spotted a former ITV detective in the latest episode of the BBC drama.
Death in Paradise fans were left surprised after a detective from an ITV series appeared in the latest episode of the BBC drama.
Tala Gouveia, who played DCI Lauren McDonald in ITV’s McDonald and Dodds, appeared in Death in Paradise, but this time as a suspect in a murder investigation. Tala previously worked alongside Jason Watkins, who played DS Dodds, before the series was cancelled.
The cancellation of McDonald and Dodds was confirmed by an ITV spokesperson, citing that the fourth season’s ratings were not sufficient to warrant a new series. However, fans saw Tala in a different light as she played Kelly Herbert, the ex-girlfriend of the murder victim, in Death in Paradise.

The episode followed Mervin Wilson (played by Don Gilet) and the team as they solved the murder of a serial dater who was killed at his villa. The victim was waiting for a woman he had met on an app when their video call was interrupted by an intruder.
However, viewers were distracted by Tala’s appearance and took to social media to express their excitement. One fan wrote: “OMG LAUREN MCDONALD EPISODE! #DeathInParadise,” reports the Express.
Others shared their enthusiasm, with one saying: “Yay, I like her,” while another added: “One of the detectives in McDonald and Dodds, I think she’s on the wrong side of the law.”
Another fan praised Tala’s performance: “She was so good in McDonald and Dodds.”

Some viewers even suggested that Tala should become a regular character in Death in Paradise, with one saying: “Is she the actress from McDonald and Dodds? She is great, they should bring her on as a regular character.”
Another fan agreed, saying: “She’s brilliant in McDonald and Dodds, I wish there were more of those.”
In another part of the episode, Selwyn Patterson, played by Don Warrington, was preparing for his departure as his colleagues awaited the arrival of his replacement.
Catherine, portrayed by Elizabeth Bourgine, broke the news to the team, stating that Sterling Fox, the new replacement, would be joining them the next day. “So, has Selwyn told you about what is happening tomorrow?” she inquired, to which Naomi Thomas, played by Shantol Jackson, replied: “No.”
Catherine explained: “I had a feeling he hadn’t. The person taking over from him arrives. They are doing the handover, after he will be gone.”
As the episode drew to a close, Selwyn bid an emotional farewell to the station, offering his sincere best wishes to his successor.
