Though several of John Sugden’s (Oliver Farnworth) dark secrets have already been revealed in Emmerdale, there is still plenty of mystery surrounding the character.
His relationship with the mysterious Aidan Moore is something that has fascinated fans, and now they think they’ve worked out a major twist.
When John first arrived in the Emmerdale village, viewers were given a glimpse into his murky past when he was seen in possession of some dog tags with Aidan’s name on them.
More recently, further information about their relationship has been uncovered.
It transpired that John and Aidan had fallen in love while serving together in the military, with the pair eventually getting engaged.
However, tragedy struck when Aidan was injured during an operation gone wrong, and John has carried the guilt of not being able to save him ever since.
With his brain having been starved of oxygen, Aidan spent a long time in a coma, but in last night’s episode he finally woke up.
Despite this, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the character wasn’t listed in the credits of the episode, while his mum, Cathleen, was credited without a surname, which sparked a theory on social media.
‘Hmm Why is it [Aidan] is not listed on the credits & his mum is just there as ‘Cathleen’ with no surname? What are they hiding?’ The fan asked on Twitter/X.
They went on to point out that the last time this happened was with Nicky Miligan, who was credited without a surname until a dramatic episode revealed that he was Caleb Miligan’s (William Ash) son.
Does this mean that Cathleen and Aidan are related to another villager?
The fan also questioned whether Aidan and John had actually gone so far as to tie the knot.
