Emmerdale Robert and Aaron’s reunion ‘sealed’ in huge clue amid sad betrayal
Emmerdale's Robert Sugden was left devastated when Aaron Dingle ruled out a reunion on the ITV soap, but Robron fans might still see the pair reconcile
There seemed to be no hope for Emmerdale’s Robron after Tuesday’s episode saw Aaron Dingle rule out a reunion with Robert Sugden.
He broke his ex-husband’s heart with his vow to stay with new spouse John Sugden, the half-brother of his former love. Robert looked completely lost and defeated as Aaron broke the news to him that he and John were his future, and he wanted Robert nowhere near him.
Of course Aaron was worried about what having the love of his life back in the village could mean for him and his future with John. Clearly trying to avoid temptation, Aaron begged his ex to not come back and to let him move on.
Robert agreed reluctantly, while he wasted no time in telling John all about his kiss with Aaron just weeks ago. John had been taunting Robert for ages about him being locked up and losing everything, so Robert decided to let him know what had really gone on.
But fear not Robron fans, it doesn’t mean “it’s over” for the pair despite this being Aaron’s claim. As the pair reunited when Aaron visited Robert in prison, the latter told his ex: “It doesn’t stop me from loving you,” referring to him marrying John.
He added: “I think you still love me too.” As the pair went on a trip down memory lane, conversation turned to Aaron having to move on and start again, as Robert cut off all contact.
A tearful Aaron shared how even at his lowest Robert refused to reach out, while Robert explained that at this point, he didn’t think he’d ever be released from prison. Now that he’s coming out, he wants to start again in the village with his family, reuniting with Aaron.
But soon a betrayal was revealed, as Aaron confessed he was the one who called the police and reported Robert for breaking his probation rules recently. Robert had been released and instead of attending his probation meeting he went to halt Aaron and John’s wedding.
It was assumed that it was John who grassed him up sending him back to prison, but on Tuesday Aaron confessed he was to blame. Robert asked why to which he said: “I had to get shot of you, out of the village, out of my head.
“Knowing you were close by… I couldn’t trust myself not to come after you. I don’t want you to come back.” He told Robert to “forget him”, as Robert pleaded with him, telling him he’d thought about him for the past six years.
Aaron asked him: “Do u really still love me?” and Robert said: “Forever.” Aaron then said: “Then that stuff between us never happened, please Robert. You forced me to build a new life, this is you.
“John’s my future now and I need you to accept that cos me and you are over.” But with Robert returning to the village very soon, how long will it be until Aaron faces temptation?
Cast members including Bradley Johnson, Lisa Riley and James Hooton all teased tough times ahead for the former couple. But they all shared their thoughts that Robron could reunite. That and the fact Robert is returning to the show permanently is surely a hint that a reunion could happen.
