Emmerdale enthusiasts are pleading for a fan-favourite guest star to become a show regular following his charming cameo in Thursday’s tearjerker (17 October).

In the heartrending episode, villagers were grappling with the loss of Zak Dingle (played by Steve Halliwell), as the Dingles prepared to wave goodbye to their beloved head honcho with a memorable knees-up.

Assembled outside The Woolpack were Sam (James Hooton), Cain (Jeff Hordley), Marlon (Mark Charnock), and Vinny (Bradley Johnson), primed to usher Zak’s casket into their favourite watering hole.

But, just as they tensed for the emotional procession, in waltzed PC Swirling (Andy Moore), sending Belle into a tizzy.

Charity (Emma Atkins), eyeing the bobby, quipped: “I reckon he would have loved having the law here. It’s like he planned it himself”, reports the Express.

Belle and Vinny

A concerned Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) approached the officer, imploring: “Surely, you don’t wanna bother us. Not today.”

Ever-protective Vinny jumped in: “I mean, you can see it’s a family funeral.”

To which the stoic copper reassured them with a few candid words: “Just come to pay me respects, I promise.”

Their moment was abruptly halted when Sam signalled Vinny to fetch Zak’s coffin from their trusty, old van. But the surprises didn’t stop there. Later, Tina Dingle (Samantha Power), after being MIA for a whopping 28 years, rocked up to give her dad one last farewell.

Soap star Moore, who’s been nailing the role of PC Mike Swirling on ITV’s hit series Emmerdale, is now a village staple, dealing with the ups and downs of the locals since 2004.

The character, a familiar face in Emmerdale, is always on hand to cross paths with the likes of the infamous Dingle clan.

The Emmerdale crowd went wild when Swirling dropped in recent scenes to say his goodbyes to Zak, leaving viewers buzzing for more of him in future episodes.

Devotees of the soap couldn’t contain their excitement on Facebook, with one fan raving: “AHH it was nice seeing PC Swirling showing his respects.”

Echoing the love, another admirer posted, “That was lovely that he turned up as a mark of respect for Zac. They should use him more often as he’s popular with the public.”

Adding to the chorus, a third chimed in with a short but sweet, “I like him”, and another showed some love with, “Love him.”

Yet another fan expressed their kudos not just for Swirling, but for the whole Emmerdale crew: “Yes it was he did well so did all the actors and writers well done you all got it just right.”
