‘Landman’ Season 2 Star Addresses Taylor Sheridan’s “Midas Touch” Amid Poor Fan Reception
“He certainly has what you would call the Midas touch,” Garcia said. Some fans would push back against this notion — Landman Season 2 currently holds a 39% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, significantly lower than the 63% score of Season 1. He continued, “If you get a call from Shakespeare, and he says, ‘I want to write this play for you,’ you go, ‘I haven’t read it yet, but I’m all in.’” According to Landman’s Andy Garcia, Taylor Sheridan is the modern-day William Shakespeare — his growing television empire on Paramount rivals even the biggest movie franchises.
Sheridan’s television empire at Paramount isn’t long for the world, though. Not long ago, it was announced that Sheridan is leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal, for a deal reportedly in the $1 billion range. That’s James Bond-level money for the Yellowstone creator. Sheridan’s TV obligations to Paramount won’t be complete until the end of 2028, but he will have the freedom to make non-Paramount movies much earlier.
