BBC Death in Paradise shares heartbreaking update and fans are ‘gutted’
Death in Paradise has confirmed the off-screen exit of Officer Darlene Curtis from series 15, with fans sharing emotional reactions to the beloved character's departure
Death in Paradise has left fans devastated with an update about a much-loved character. Following the cast reveal for series 15 of the BBC show, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that Officer Darlene Curtis, portrayed by Ginny Holder, was absent from the line-up.
In a recent post, the show confirmed Ginny’s off-screen departure. Fans had already picked up on Darlene’s absence during the Death in Paradise Christmas special, where she only made an appearance via video link to chat with her colleagues.
Accompanied by a montage of Darlene’s moments on the show, the post stated, ” Sadly, we’re saying goodbye to Darlene this series. Ginny Holder has been a much-loved cast member, and we’re hugely grateful to her for bringing her talent, personality, and energy to Officer Darlene Curtis.”
Teasing a possible return, it concluded, “We wish her all the best – maybe we’ll catch up with her in Saint Marie down the line!”
Fans flocked to the comments section to express their feelings about Ginny’s exit, with one writing, “I can’t describe how much Darlene has made such a lovely impact. Ginny played Darlene so well, and it’s very sad to see her go,” reports the Express.
Another commented, “Aww, no sad news! She almost made the new detective bearable. Honestly, the show is losing its appeal – I only really like Naomi now (and Catherine and Selwyn, of course! ). Hoping the new sergeant is good!”
A third viewer commented: “Oh no! How sad! I adore the spice and class Darlene brings to the show. Wishing Ginny all the very best.”
Another fan wrote: “Darlene was a PERFECT character for the show! She had her “network” but she also showed a lot of common sense and compassion. I’ll miss her! Thanks for your wonderful work, Ginny!”
“No, I’m gutted. She’s a breath of fresh air, and her character has developed brilliantly over the series,” a further viewer agreed.
Whilst fans are disappointed to see Ginny depart, they can anticipate the arrival of a fresh face filling her shoes – Sergeant Mattie Fletcher, portrayed by actress Catherine Garton.
Don Gilet is also set to return, reprising his role as Detective Mervin Wilson, alongside Shantol Jackson as DS Naomi Thomas.

Don Warrington will be back as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, with Elizabeth Bourgine returning as Catherine Bordey, whilst Shaquille Ali-Yebuah will once again take on the role of Officer Sebastian Rose.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk and other media outlets, Shantol Jackson reflected on Ginny’s departure, admitting, “We’ll miss her.
“We definitely Miss Ginny because Ginny’s character, she was like…so Catherine comes in and she’s the older sister, or, you know, the older cousin, but Ginny was like, Queen Mother,” she explained.
“And the beautiful thing about Ginny was that she was auntie of the police station, so Darlene…she carried that in her character, and then that’s how she was outside of set.
“So, you know, we’ll find that we miss the character and miss the person, but you know, thankfully, Catherine has done so exceptionally well that you don’t feel like there is an empty gap.”
