Doctor Who Paul McGann BLASTS Romantic Doctor-Companion Relationships! | BLAMES David Tennant!

the doctor being romantically involved with his companions and with others in general is a topic that is quite controversial among fans for the first 26 years the doctor was essentially asexual yes we’ve known he has a granddaughter from the very beginning but in terms of how the doctor is portrayed throughout classic who he shows no romantic interest in anyone however from the TV movie up until now and I’m sure this will continue the doctor has been depicted as an alien figure who despite his otherworldliness
doesn’t shy away from pursuing love or seizing romantic opportunities interestingly Paul Manan the eth doctor himself objects to this direction Doctor Who Paul Manan blames David’s tenant for all the Snogging says Doctor can’t be a love interest the doctor cannot be a love interest it’s impossible former Dr Paul McAn has spoken out about the essence of romance that can sometimes be woven through Doctor Who citing David Tenant as the reason why speaking in an interview in the most recent issue of
Doctor Who magazine Manan was promoting the live audio event of the stuff of Legend at kadigan Hall with co-star India Fisher who voices Charlie Pollard Fisher said well everyone always mentions this but I never took it that way people got upset during Shero we were meant to kiss in that one but actually we mailed it into one and everyone got very upset but now of course the doctor is Snogging all over the shop Manan added that’s because of David Tenant the David Cassidy of doctors Fisher continued but for me
Charlie’s love of the doctor is complicated he is her everything she was 18 when she stowed away so the doctor is her family and her love interest yeah it’s a complicated feeling that she has for the doctor with Charlie it’s got to be platonic Manan said insisting the doctor cannot be a love interest it’s impossible fer then added yeah the doctor needs to be aexual there’s none of that in the Tardis although manan’s eighth incarnation of the doctor was responsible for having his first onscreen kiss Manan then said
I think that’s the rule you don’t break I think if that happened Doctor Who would lose one of its hugest advantages you can’t go back after that yes manan’s doctor was the first to share an onscreen case but I’ve heard in recent years he didn’t actually want to do it the studio pushed for it likely thinking it would attract more American viewers as us television has always leaned more towards drama as for manan’s comments I absolutely agree I prefer the doctor as an asexual character who Journeys across
time and space battling monsters and embarking on adventures I don’t think the doctor’s relationship with companions should be static should vary sometimes he’s a father figure sometimes just a mate and sometimes more of a teacher that variety is fine but I think bringing romance into it is a load of nonsense it makes Doctor Who feel like any other show and I much prefer the types of doctor companion relationships in classic who which are entirely devoid of romantic entanglements that said there are some cases like with tenants
Doctor and Rose that I still don’t care for I’m not a fan of the Romantic relationships any of the new Who doctors have had but at least with ten and row I can see how the Romantic element is used to highlight the fact that the doctor can’t truly be in relationships with humans because he will always outlive them he isn’t human even though 10 is arguably the most human of all of his incarnations that aspect ties into the moral dilemas he faces so I understand objectively how these relationships can
be used to explore different character arcs however there are plenty of other ways to do that tend anger and pride for example are expressed through various other circumstances as much as people love to call me an IST and throw around other buzzword when I express my dislike for the 13 doctor and YZ or the 15th doctor and Rogue they always seem to forget that I’m not a fan of 11 and River either that bit gets conveniently overlooked because it doesn’t fit their narrative uh wouldn’t it be brilliant if
we had a proper liveaction era for the eighth doctor I know the chances of that happening now are Slimmer than slim and to be fair if it did happen we’d probably have a whole new set of worries about the quality of the writing and the messaging tell me what you think about all of this in the comments section down below don’t forget to like share and subscribe and I will see you in the next video take care
