Death in Paradise fans ‘expose’ Solomon’s identity and he’s not Mervin’s brother

Death in Paradise fans have been sharing their theories about Mervin Wilson's brother, Solomon, after he stole from the detective in the latest episode of the BBC drama

Death in Paradise brought viewers face-to-face with Mervin Wilson’s sibling, Solomon, on Friday evening, yet fans suspect all is not as it seems. Despite his eagerness to connect with Solomon (portrayed by Daniel Ward), the unfortunate detective received a nasty surprise when his brother robbed him after being denied a loan.

As the episode concluded, Mervin (Don Gilet) and DS Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackson) returned to the shack, only to find it had been ransacked.

“Sir, where are all your clothes?” Naomi enquired. “And the record player and the records. Sir…you’ve had a break in.”

“No,” Mervin responded. “He’s cleared out the place.”

After the episode aired, viewers have been voicing their opinions and theories about Solomon, with many doubting his true identity as Mervin’s sibling, according to the Express.

“Is he even his real brother?” one viewer questioned, whilst another remarked, “I knew he was no good, poor Mervin.”

A third speculated, “That’s not his brother, it’s someone who’s pretending to be Solomon.”

Someone else continued, “Don’t think Sol is his brother, he’s an impostor.”

Another concurred, “I don’t think he is the brother. I think he is a chancer, Melvin assumed was his brother.”

During an exclusive chat with Reach PLC and other media outlets, the actor portraying Mervin discussed his experience collaborating with Daniel Ward, who depicts his on-screen sibling. “It’s great working with Daniel,” Don explained.

“I didn’t realise until working with him, he also writes, so he’s one of those people who really loves to do a deep dive into the writing and the character.

“So it was really good to play with a guy who’s got a sense of where the writing comes from, the root of the writing. And it’s always great to work with actors who can take it off the page and run with it, and take the time to really form a 360 of the character.

“But I mean in terms of the characters we play, Mervyn and Solomon as brothers, couldn’t be any more opposed, which makes the drama, which makes the entertainment.”

Death in Paradise is back on Friday at 9pm on BBC One.
