Death In Paradise star lets slip Mervin’s future on show after terrifying twist
Death In Paradise star Daniel Ward has exclusively revealed that DI Mervin Wilson is in grave danger on the BBC detective drama after he was kidnapped when he headed to Antigua
Death In Paradise star Daniel Ward has teased DI Mervin Wilson is in grave danger on the BBC detective drama. Things took a worrying turn for Mervin – played by Don Gilet – last week when he headed to Antigua.
In search for his brother Solomon, played by Daniel, it’s clear things go awry when Mervin ends up being kidnapped – but what happened and will he make it out alive?
Speaking about Mervin’s fate, Daniel exclusively told The Mirror: “He is in grave danger. There is a real pressure. This episode is epic. It’s a huge amount of resources and effort and everyone pulls together in their own way to help him.”
Solomon had quite an unusual start to his time on the show, where he charmed his way into the lives of those around him – only for him to disappear when he realised he’s polar opposite from his brother Mervin.
“I think that when you first meet Solomon, he’s very charming. He’s quite mischievous, and I think that he uses that charm and has used that charm to get his way into people’s lives and make those connections and exploit some of those connections. I do think that there is a vulnerability and a kind of need for something that sits underneath that,” he said.
“Maybe he’s a bit misunderstood, but I also think he doesn’t fully understand himself sometimes. He doesn’t understand necessarily why he does the things that he does, and I think that later on we get to learn more about that and learn more about who he is as a person and why he does the things he does.”
Daniel’s role as Solomon sees him work closely with Don Gilet and Don Warrington, who play DI Mervin Wilson and Commissioner Selwyn Patterson respectively.
On working with the duo, Daniel said: “It was wonderful to see his level of effort, commitment and dedication to the part. They’ve both been in it for a while. Don Warrington’s been in it since the beginning, and they still care.
“They care about the characters. They care about the story. They’re invested. We had a laugh. We had a lot of fun, but we got to tell a great story together. I really enjoyed it.”
As for what’s next for Solomon on the BBC show, Daniel has teased that there’s a potential future there for his character.
“Through this episode, I think Solomon learns about himself just as much as the audience do. And I think that journey can continue into the future. It’ll be interesting to see where those revelations and where those spins kind of take him as a person,” he said.
Will Mervin make it out alive – and what will happen to Solomon?
