Death in Paradise star Daniel Ward has issued a warning to viewers as DI Mervin Wilson encounters grave danger in the much-loved BBC detective drama.

Last week’s instalment saw Mervin, portrayed by Don Gilet, make the bold decision to travel to Antigua in an unexpected turn of events.

Whilst attempting to locate his brother Solomon, played by Daniel, the situation rapidly deteriorates as the episode concludes with Mervin apparently abducted and bound to a chair.

In an exclusive conversation with Express.co.uk, the Death in Paradise actor disclosed that circumstances will only deteriorate further for the unsuspecting detective in the eagerly awaited episode, broadcasting on Monday (March 9).

He explained: “His brother is a troublemaker, and he’s made some trouble. Mervin has gone to find his brother and has ended up, seemingly, kidnapped in Antigua, and I think it’s a sad realisation of what the brothers thought might happen.

“At the end of episode two, when Solomon does leave Saint Marie, he says, ‘We’re not good for each other’, and I think DI Mervin ending up in a chair somewhere in Antigua tied up is only proof of that.”

Solomon arrived on the programme with considerable flair, bursting into the detective’s world with his flamboyant red motor and a vivid pink flamingo. He succeeded in captivating everyone he encountered through his magnetism before disappearing without trace, reports the Express.

He hinted: “The thing about Solomon is that his natural reaction to things is to be charming, to be a sycophant to disarm people through his charm and playfulness.

“That’s his natural demeanour, but I think throughout the series we see that mask slip and tonight that mask begins to drop and we begin to see more of what he is actually like as a person and how he got to that place.”

The actor cautioned viewers to watch carefully for subtle clues about the brothers’ backstory as they frantically attempt to work out what his genuine intentions are in the programme. He stressed: “I’d like fans to keep an eye out for the history of the brothers.

“I think we know Mervin’s grown up in care, and he’s had a troubled past, and Solomon has had a troubled past. It’s interesting how those two experiences interact. There are certainly parallels in terms of having a troubled childhood in a number of ways. You see that sometimes it makes one person go one way, and it makes another person go another.

“That’s one of the things I found most interesting because, certainly with Mervin, there’s an alternate future where he might have gone down a different route, and that’s why sometimes he’s more miserable. They’re very different, but they share history, and that’s manifested differently in them as adults.”

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC One.
