BBC Death in Paradise fans baffled as Selwyn Patterson’s replacement returns
BBC Death in Paradise will see Selwyn Patterson's previous replacement, Sterling Fox, make his return in tonight's episode as fans question his comeback
Death in Paradise fans are set for a surprise as Selwyn Patterson’s (portrayed by Don Warrington ) former stand-in, Sterling Fox (Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge), makes a comeback in tonight’s episode. The sixth instalment of the BBC series is due to air this evening after being unexpectedly dropped from last Friday’s TV schedule.
In the previous season, Selwyn was shocked to discover he was being ousted from his position as Commissioner of Saint Marie, with Sterling lined up as his successor.
Despite Catherine Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine) successfully securing Selwyn’s reinstatement, he chose to depart Saint Marie and head to the UK to visit his daughter.
He even popped up in the Beyond Paradise Christmas special and the Death in Paradise festive episode, lending a hand with a case connected to the UK.
As series 15 of Death in Paradise kicked off, viewers were delighted to see the Commissioner back at the helm; however, in a surprising turn of events, he crosses paths with Sterling in tonight’s episode, reports the Express.
The Commissioner and Sergeant Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackson) jet off to Antigua after Mervin Wilson ( Don Gilet ) lands himself in hot water.
In a shocking twist, Mervin’s own brother, Solomon (Daniel Ward), abducts the detective. This prompts his colleagues to rush to the island to assist, but they find Sterling obstructing their path.
“Commissioner Patterson, what an honour,” Sterling greeted. “And DS…what is your name again?”
As Naomi started to respond, Sterling interjected, “I heard you were back. What happened?”
“Why are you here, Mr Fox?” Selwyn asked, to which Sterling explained he was given a job in Antigua as an officer in training.
Fans were also left questioning why Sterling was back, with one writing on social media, “What is Sterling doing there?”
“Hang on, is that who replaced Selwyn when he was fired?” another asked.
Whilst a third added, “What on earth is Sterling Fox doing back?”
Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
