Soap fans are just now discovering that Emmerdale legend Claire King has a completely different real name.
The television star, 62, has been a fixture on our screens since the 80s. Claire is most recognised for her role as Kim Tate on the ITV soap, making her first appearance in 1989.
Kim quickly rose to become one of the show’s most iconic characters. Claire decided to leave in 1999 to pursue other opportunities. However, she made a triumphant return to the ITV soap 20 years later.
Throughout her tenure on the show, her character has been at the centre of some of its most significant storylines. From steamy affairs to even staging her own death, her stint in the Dales has been anything but dull, reports Leeds Live.
Currently, she’s embroiled in a feud with her cheating ex-husband Will Taylor (Dean Andrews), who betrayed Kim earlier this year with his former wife Rose Jackson (Christine Tremarco).
Will was subsequently blackmailed by an unknown individual – who turned out to be none other than Kim, who was privy to everything. Since then, Kim has been adamant about preventing Will from getting his hands on her wealth and estate.
However, recent episodes have hinted at a possible reconciliation between the pair, particularly following the recent death of Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell). Away from the drama of the soap, fans were taken aback upon learning that Claire King’s real name is quite different. Claire was born Jayne Claire Seed.
One gobsmacked fan on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page exclaimed: “I was today year’s old when I found out Clare King’s real name is Jayne Seed,” while another left utterly flabbergasted remarked: “No way, my mind is actually blown.”
Meanwhile, a third chimed in with a bit of disbelief: “She doesn’t look like a Jayne.” It’s been quite the rollercoaster 38 years since Claire King rocked up to the Dales, and her telly career has been nothing short of massive!
Not just content with causing a stir on Emmerdale, the star also graced Hollyoaks as the formidable Andrea Mason QC from 2005 till 2012, and trod the cobbles of Coronation Street playing Erica Holroyd from 2014 to 2017.
