Beyond Paradise star Kris Marshall has issued an update on “complaints” fans have about the show. The 52-year-old reprised his role of DI Humphrey Goodman for the Death in Paradise spin-off in 2022.

Since then he has gone on to film four series of the show. It follows the three series of Death in Paradise that he filmed, departing the series in 2017 as Ardal O’Hanlon took over as the main detective.

Ardal himself left after three series with Ralf Little and Don Gilet subsequently taking on the lead role. Beyond Paradise has become incredibly popular since its launch, drawing in millions of viewers.

The series has also become an international hit, drawing audiences from North America, Canada, and Australia. On the TV Reload podcast, host Benjamin Morris said it was viewers Down Under who had a gripe with the show.

Speaking to Kris in 2025, he said: “You’re on a show now that’s so popular that when I was doing the research for this, there were people in Australia complaining, ‘We’re delayed’, I can’t remember what exact time. You know you’re on a good show when the complaint is, ‘We ain’t getting it fast enough’.”

Kris replied: “I’ve read a couple of those complaints myself. I think the last series, season three, ended about two or three weeks ago, so a few weeks behind the UK but not too much really and we will begin filming again soon.”

Kris went on to reveal he feared he had “dropped another spoiler” again. It came just after he revealed he often finds himself in hot water with producers for giving away too much about the show.

He said: “I get into trouble about it all the time, honestly, I’ve had so many dressings down behind closed doors with the amount of spoilers I’m dropping. I need more media training or something.”

Elsewhere Kris addressed his time on Death in Paradise, explaining that filming, which takes place on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, would keep him away from his family. But with Beyond Paradise filming in Devon and Cornwall, he can travel home every other weekend.

In conversation with the Mirror, Kris explained: “Actually, I love it. I get the beauty of seeing my family every other weekend, but then I also get the solitude I enjoy at the end of a really hard working week. I rent the same place every year in a wonderful village (near where Beyond Paradise is filmed).

“It’s on a beach that isn’t touristy because it’s quite rocky, but it’s got a wonderful little surf break there.”

The actor also opened up about how the area has a positive impact on his mental health. He said: “I was a big surfer growing up. I wasn’t particularly good, but I loved it. I did it all over the world for fun. I love the sea. So every morning before work, I’m in the sea. I’m in the sea after work. I go hiking up on the Moors.

“It’s a huge part of who I am. We talk a lot about mental health these days and how the great outdoors is so good for your mental health. When you’re on a big shoot like Beyond Paradise, which is 70 hours a week for 23 weeks straight, one after the other, while it looks and is bucolic and lovely, it’s also quite hard work. I use Devon and Cornwall to keep my mental health stable.”
