BBC hit Beyond Paradise is apparently set to return for a fifth series next year.

The fourth series of the Death in Paradise spin-off is currently airing, with viewers gripped by the cases that DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) is solving with his police partner DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi).

And now TVZone has reported that the broadcaster has commissioned a fifth run of the popular crime drama. The BBC has been contacted for comment.

Kris Marshall

Kris previously appeared in the BBC‘s beloved crime drama Death in Paradise, which is set on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie.

In 2023 he reprised his role as DI Humphrey Goodman in the spin-off, which follows the officer as he settles into life in Shipton Abbott in Devon with his long-term partner Martha (played by Sally Bretton), who he tied the knot with in the 2025 Christmas special.

The show’s fourth series has seen the pair navigating married life, while Humphrey’s cases have included the death of his favourite crime novelist, and a surprising burglary in which the crime scene is meticulously cleaned after the crime.

Kris previously teased that fans can expect plenty of “drama” from the fourth series, sharing during an appearance on The One Show: “There’s a lot more dramas following him.”

“Drama is not too far away with Humphrey!” he added with a laugh.

When quizzed about his favourite crime from the new episodes, Kris revealed: “Well, I mean, I always love anything involving water and being in the water or on the water. We have got a wonderful episode this season about mermaids. So obviously that invariably involves a lot of water. And yeah, so that’s always my favourite.”

Death in Paradise has been airing since 2011, with Beyond Paradise starting 12 years later. Another spin-off, Return to Paradise, which is set in Australia, started in 2024.
