Barbara Flynn has hinted at the upcoming change her Beyond Paradise character is set to face.

The Doctor Who actress has starred in the BBC Death in Paradise spin-off from 2023, alongside Kris Marshall and Sally Bretton, where she plays Anne Lloyd, Martha’s mother.

Appearing on Morning Live today, Barbara teased storylines yet to come in the series.

She shared: “This series just grows and grows. Shipton Abbott is never still. So many things happen in this series for Anne.

“She is going through a time of change, obviously, because her daughter and son-in-law are now moving out.

“She has become a councillor, through her new golfing friend Mr Smith, she has gained a seat on the police and crime panel and finds herself overseeing Humphrey’s work, which is rather astonishing.

“The story transcends that Humphrey is also involved with Mr Smith and the two lives come together.”

She continued: “In this series, you’re seeing pirate treasure coming up, there is land problems with building and family difficulties, everything is there in Beyond Paradise, it’s an extraordinary show and it reaches a lot of people.”

Addressing the reaction she’s had from fans, Barbara went on: “People do come up and they’re very, very kind about this show, they love it and they feel very involved.

“I think it touches things that people want to talk about, maybe don’t, but maybe this series opens up a few conversations. It’s a friendly series.”

This comes after Barbara hinted a “bombshell” is heading Humphrey’s way.

When discussing the dynamic with Anne’s new role and Humphrey’s work, she revealed: “At a certain point in this series, a bombshell drops. It makes Humphrey think, ‘Oh my God, not only is Anne at home, but she’s also going to be in my work now’.

“All I can say is that it’s going to be a major challenge for both of them.”

The six-part series of Beyond Paradise is coming to a close in a few weeks, with the fourth instalment airing on Friday.

The synopsis for the new episode teases: “Humphrey and Esther are left baffled when a dogwalker leads them to a man painted green and bound with ivy. Delving into the mystery of the mythical Green Man, the team discover an off-grid community living off the land.

“But when their woodland home comes under threat from a developer from the city, tensions rise and accusations fly as the image of the Green Man continues to crop up at crime scenes, including painted across a developer’s office as it goes up in flames.

“Learning more from the two warring brothers who own the land, with one siding with the off-gridders, and the other keen to get the diggers in, it’s up to the Shipton Abbott team to uncover the ties that bind and those that don’t. But when one alibi doesn’t check out, it seems the battle lines in this extreme sibling rivalry aren’t as clear-cut as they seem, as dark secrets threaten to be unearthed.

“Meanwhile, the pressure on Humphrey from Mr Smith continues to mount as the deadline to lose a team member rapidly approaches. A family dinner looks set to offer some respite, but things go from bad to worse when it turns out Anne has invited Mr Smith as her special guest.”
