BBC Death In Paradise fans say it ‘feels wrong’ as they spot major change to show
Death In Paradise viewers were left divided as the series underwent a major shake-up on Friday night
Death In Paradise viewers were quick to complain as the show underwent a major shake-up on Friday night’s episode.
During the latest episode, a distillery boss met his end after being poisoned during a rum tasting session shared with others — leaving everyone baffled as to how only he succumbed despite the fact that each guest sipped from the same bottle.
Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson and his squad delved into a web of long-buried secrets among the suspects to crack the case.
At the end of the episode, the culprit was finally revealed in a twist viewers didn’t see coming. However, show watchers were left confused over the reveal as they complained the programme had broken tradition.

Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: “I don’t like they have broke tradition here in not gathering the suspects…….how dare they #deathinparadise”, a different account put: “#deathinparadise This is the first time they haven’t got all the suspects together to reveal the murderer”, another wrote: “I don’t like the rest of the suspects not being there, feels wrong hahaha #DeathInParadise” while a different viewer added: “This better not become the norm, it just ruins the tradition of the show. #deathinparadise.”
Elsewhere, another viewer put: “the suspects weren’t gathered together #DeathInParadise”, another wrote: “Why couldn’t they get all of the suspects together before releasing all….. #DeathInParadise” while a different show watcher commented: “The first time all the suspects are not together! #DeathInParadise”.
The beloved BBC One detective series made its return earlier this year, introducing viewers to a fresh face at the helm – DI Mervin Wilson, portrayed by Don Gilet. Audiences got their initial glimpse of Mervin during the show’s festive special, where he ventured to the Caribbean to meet his estranged mother for the first time, only to find that she had sadly passed away, in keeping with the show’s dramatic twists.
This casting shake-up follows Ralf Little’s exit from the series last year, as his character Neville Parker decided to embark on a journey around the globe. Now, it’s time for a new detective with Mervin leading the show.
