BBC Death In Paradise make huge series announcement after exit fears
Death In Paradise will be back for a 15th series of the hit BBC detective drama, with filming having already begun on the upcoming series
Death In Paradise have confirmed a 15th series is in the works. At the end of last series, viewers watched on as DI Mervin Wilson decided he would stay on the island after finding out he had a brother.
However, in sad scenes, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson decided that he was going to move on from the police force and take some time to travel, sparking fears that he won’t return when the new series airs.
A fifteenth series has now been confirmed on the Death In Paradise social media account, when they posted: “We’re back in paradise! Filming has begun this week in Guadeloupe on the brand-new series of #DeathInParadise.”
The comments were soon inundated with excited fans, but some were left concerned about whether Selwyn would be back. One wrote: “Selwyn better be staying, the show needs his presence!”
“Amazing news. Can’t wait. I miss them all (hopefully The Comissioner is back) @donbwarrington,” a second shared, with a third adding: “Needs @donbwarrington to be there or missing a huge talent!” A fourth said: “Woop woop soo exciting can’t wait.”
Selwyn was told his job wasn’t viable anymore and he was being replaced at the top of the series, and whilst he was offered his job back, in the end, he decided not to take it back and go and travel.
Asked how Selwyn took the news, he said: “Not well. It’s shocking for him, and he does his best to get the superiors to change their decision and see things differently… It’s very interesting because we discover other aspects of Selwyn and that’s always the joy about playing a character like him – there are so many different sides to him. You think you know about somebody but due to life events, you learn more about them. He’s opening up, he’s a bit like a flower coming in to bloom.”
Selwyn also had multiple moments with Mervin as they teamed up to find out what happened to his mother.
“It was a very emotional journey for Mervin because he’s discovering things that will turn his life upside down whether he likes it or not. It called for a kind of delicacy from Selwyn because he recognises how this situation may be traumatic for Mervin,” he added.
DI Mervin Wilson – played by Don Gilet – will be be back as the lead detective following the exit of DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) in the previous series when he decided to go and travel and be with Florence Cassell.
