Death In Paradise will not air this evening amid a twist with Commissioner Selwyn Patterson. In shocking scenes airing last week, the Commissioner – played by Don Warrington – was left with no choice but to leave his role.

A younger person from the central team in Jamaica had arrived in Saint Marie to replace the Commissioner’s full time role, leaving fans devastated that Selwyn would be out of a job for good. The rest of the team tried to protest but to no avail.

The show airs every Friday evening, with the final episode of the series due to air tomorrow night. However, it won’t air on Friday 21st owing to Comic Relief, and thus the final episode of the series will air next Friday (29th March) instead.
A synopsis for the upcoming eighth episode reads: “Just as he is about to fly home, Mervin finds himself at the centre of a murder investigation when a body is discovered in his shack. While he professes his innocence, the team is perplexed with the circumstances – namely how the victim ended up inside a locked building with no sign of forced entry.
Death In Paradise will air its final episode the following week

“The woman’s identity remains elusive until they discover she was volunteering at a local turtle conservation charity. Meanwhile, Selwyn delivers some personal news to Mervin that turns everything on its head.”

Could this be an exit for both DI Mervin Wilson and the Commissioner – or will both of them decide to stay?

Whilst Death In Paradise won’t air tonight, there will be a special Beyond Paradise and Not Going Out sketch. Sally Bretton, who plays Martha in the BBC drama, also has a starring role in the Lee Mack comedy.

“It was great fun to have the two worlds collide, play my own doppelganger and get swept up in the madness that comes with that. It was particularly special to be doing it all for such a brilliant cause as Comic Relief,” she said of the comedy special, “The sketch was filmed at such high speed, we didn’t know if we were coming or going. I don’t know how Lee Mack holds all the moving parts in his head. We all had a great day filled with fun, confusion and belly laughs.”

Kris Marshall – who plays Detective Humphrey Goodman on the show – added: “It’s always a delight to be able to combine the joys of comedy with the ability to help the many worthwhile charities that Comic Relief supports. And that as a part of the hilarious mistaken identities and sliding-doors pastiche in a melange of two of the BBC’s most beloved shows, I can be a small cog in this year’s wonderful evening of fun, frolics and fundraising.”

Death In Paradise has become a fan favourite ever since its inception over a decade ago. There have been multiple Detective Inspectors who have graced the island, most recently DI Neville Parker – played by Ralf Little.

Don Gilet took over the lead role as DI Mervin Wilson – but with Mervin now having solved his mum’s murder and planning on heading home, could his tenure on Saint Marie be very short lived?
