Death in Paradise star Josephine Jobert has sent a touching message to her former co-star Shantol Jackson following her appearance on BBC’s The One Show.
Josephine, who played DS Florence Cassell in the series, took to Instagram to express her admiration for Shantol, writing: “My queen! You also carry the show so well. Proud of you!”
This came after Shantol, who portrays DS Naomi Thomas, praised new lead detective actor Don Gilet for effortlessly joining the show.
Shantol complimented Don, saying: “He’s a really good number one. He carries the show well. He cares about the characters and he cares about the story, so it’s good fun on set with Don.”

When asked about adapting to the new lead after Ralf Little’s departure, Shantol stated: “It’s fine actually. I think the main thing for us was to ensure that Don felt comfortable because it’s not about any one person.”
She emphasized the importance of Don feeling at ease in his role, especially given the show’s massive popularity, which she admitted she hadn’t fully realized until joining the cast. Shantol also noted how quickly Don, a former EastEnders star, adjusted to his new role.
The actress enthused, “Two weeks into filming the Christmas special he was fine. We have great banter on and off the set. Don is really fun to work with,” reports the Express.

During the latest episode of Death in Paradise, Don’s character, DI Mervin, takes on a three-month stint with the Saint Marie police to look into his mum’s mysterious death.
Meanwhile, Don Gilet revealed on ITV’s Lorraine that his character’s emotional quest sets season 14 apart from the rest, saying: “I think what is different about this one is that there is an arc. There is a personal journey that is going on with the detective because he is originally there to find his mother.”
He explained further: “He has to stay there in this place. He has tried to leave. He has all that struggle going on and he doesn’t like these people because he doesn’t want to be there.”
Death in Paradise airs Fridays at 9pm on BBC One
