Beyond Paradise first look as Humphrey faces troubling case in Death In Paradise spin-off

Humphrey Goodman and his team will tackle a brand new case in tonight's episode of BBC detective drama Beyond Paradise - a spin-off of the popular Death In Paradise

Beyond Paradise’s Humphrey Goodman will tackle a new and difficult case in tonight’s episode. Humphrey – who became a fan favourite in Death In Paradise – is back again to lead the team in Shipton Abbot.

Tonight, DI Humphrey Goodman – played by Kris Marshall – and DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi) tackle a new case when Kelby’s childhood friend finds herself targeted. Humphrey, meanwhile, is busy helping new foster child Rosie settle in and Esther finds herself caught up in a new romantic connection. Anne is dealing with her health.

An official synopsis of the episode reads: “When Kelby’s old friend Emily becomes the target of threatening texts, the team tries to uncover the identity of the keyboard warrior. With Humphrey busy at home, Kelby steps up to help Esther with the investigation, facing endless potential suspects as they delve into the world of social media and online spats.

“Meanwhile, Humphrey and Martha have a rocky start as they welcome Rosie – their new foster child – into their home, new relations are formed as Esther finds herself in a surprising romantic entanglement, and Anne is rocked by a potential health scare.”

An exclusive first look at the episode, as shared with The Mirror, shows Humphrey and Esther chatting to one of the suspects in the case. Asking Esther to stop on a bookshop at the way back, Humphrey reveals he’s been “surplus to requirements” with Rosie but was hoping a bedtime story might persuade her that he wasn’t so bad after all.

Heading to speak to the suspect, the young influencer said it was “important to protect her brand”. When Esther suggested that Emily had threatened her brand image, the influencer said it had been none of Emily’s business whether she filtered the images or not – but was she to blame for Emily being targeted – or is it someone else altogether?

Speaking about this episode being one of his favourite cases, Dylan Llewellyn, who plays PC Kelby Hartford, said: “This season is packed with some intriguing cases. Episode two stands out as it involves a childhood sweetheart of Kelby’s falling victim to online abuse, which brings back some personal connections for him.

“The team face a variety of challenges and I think viewers will love how the cases intertwine with the characters’ personal lives, especially Humphrey and Martha’s ongoing story and, of course, Kelby and Margo’s banter. It’s the great balance of intense cases and lighter moments that are the heart of the show.”
