John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) is undoubtedly quaking in his boots as the Emmerdale moment we’ve been waiting for has arrived – the body in the lake has been discovered and is about to be exhumed.

The question is, who is it going to be? Nate, or Anthony?

The terror is real for Ruby (Beth Cordingly), Cain (Jeff Hordley), Caleb (Will Ash), and Chas (Lucy Pargeter) who immediately believe it’s Anthony. The body has been there for months; it fits the timescale.

Ruby – the one who did the actual killing – is hit the hardest, believing that the body of her father is about to tell the tale of what she did to him. Caleb hears her panic and suggests they flee, and Cain makes plans for them to run off to their Irish relatives.

But before they can enact their plan, Caleb finds a note – Ruby has run off to the police station to confess.

At the station, Ruby starts telling the officers about the years of abuse she suffered at the hands of her dad and reiterates to them that Caleb had nothing to do with Anthony’s disappearance. Before she gets too far, she’s interrupted – by a solicitor.

Chas learns of Ruby’s confession and starts to lose it herself. Caleb tries to reassure her that the solicitor has a plan, just as the police arrive to question him. Chas hides the note, but they’ve got some work to do to pull Ruby out of the situation she’s got herself in before she exposes them all.

Soon though, the news filters through that the body has been identified and it’s Nate and everything is turned on its head.

Tracy looks shocked as the police arrive at her door

Tracy (Amy Walsh) crumbles when she hears the news, and Cain and Moira are equally as blindsided when DC Cole arrives at the farm to tell them the same. Cain is distraught, and he’s told he can’t even visit his son for a goodbye as he’s so badly decomposed.

An overwhelmed Tracy tries to think back over Nate’s final days in the village and she realises something – Cain had a huge fight with Nate the same day he died. He is now suspect number 1.

Cain’s forced into police questioning, his least favourite activity, and what’s worse is his own family start to question his side of the story.

Chas worries he might be guilty as the family consider his motives, and Tracy thinks Cain’s remorse is really a secret admission of guilt. She airs her suspicions to Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick).

And there’s worse to come when DC Cole rocks up with a development in Nate’s case. Is Cain going down for the death of his son?

And while the body isn’t Anthony’s has Ruby put herself in the frame for his disappearance?
