Death in Paradise ‘confirms’ future for beloved character in first look at series finale
The Death in Paradise finale will see Selwyn Patterson make a huge decision about his future
Death in Paradise is due to conclude with the highly anticipated finale set to air on Friday, 28 March. The fourteenth season introduced DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) following the departure of DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little). There’s been plenty of drama, including Mervin discovering the truth about his mum’s death and his adoption.
Elsewhere, Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) has faced some challenges, especially when he was informed that he’d been let go from the Honoré Police Department after 50 years of service.
Upon hearing the news, Catherine (Élizabeth Bourgine) exclaimed: “But they can’t do this?” with Selwyn sadly revealing: “It seems they can and they have. It seems it comes back to one thing: to save money.”
Catherine and Selwyn launched an online petition to save his job. Despite amassing thousands of signatures, the pair’s efforts failed to convince the chief commissioner to change his mind.
Adding further insult, Sterling Fox (Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge), who would replace Selwyn, arrived.
However, Selwyn’s work on Mervin’s late mother’s murder case and helping to bring those responsible to justice helped to demonstrate why he’s needed at the police department.
A teaser for the finale reveals Selwyn is eventually offered his job back, yet it remains to be seen if he decides to accept the position or turn it down.

Fans will find out what Selwyn decides when the finale airs after having to wait longer than intended for the episode. The show was postponed due to this year’s Comic Relief airing on Friday, 21 March on BBC One.
The synopsis for the finale reads: “Mervin is about to fly home but finds himself at the centre of a murder investigation when a body is discovered in his shack. As Mervin professes his innocence, the team can’t work out how the victim ended up inside a locked building with no sign of forced entry.
“The woman’s identity remains elusive until they discover she was volunteering at a local turtle conservation charity, and suspicion falls on her colleagues.
“Meanwhile, Selwyn grapples with his most difficult decision yet when he delivers some personal news to Mervin that turns everything on its head.”
