Death In Paradise first look as DI Mervin Wilson’s search into mother’s death continues

The new season of Death in Paradise marked the beginning of DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) becoming the main detective in Saint Marie

Another dramatic episode of Death In Paradise returns on Friday night as DI Mervin Wilson continues his search into his mother’s death.

The new season marked the beginning of DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) becoming the main detective in Saint Marie, replacing DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little). He was there to visit his mother Dorna, who he was too young to remember.

It was said she died at sea, but he’s been on the search trying to find out what truly happened to her. And now, in a first look exclusive clip, viewers get to see a glimpse of his search- which landed him at an eatery with DS Naomi Thomas (played by Shantol Jackson).

In the video, Thomas and Wilson were seen stepping out the car as she asked: “Any particular reason we’re eating out? Or did you fancy a change?” while they walked into The Flying Fish restaurant. Wilson said he wanted to visit all the places his mother visited or frequented at.

Wilson, ever the brash and straightforward person, immediately said: “We’ll order now” to the server before Thomas even had the time to open the menu. He ordered a creole shrimp salad and a Coca-Cola. As Thomas didn’t have time to browse, she ordered ‘what he’s having’.

He also asked the server to tell the chefs to be quick as they were “on the clock”, which caused Thomas to roll her eyes. “Maybe you could talk to some of the staff and see if they knew you’re mother,” she soon said to the detective. “Or I could if you would prefer. What do you think?”

It comes as Death in Paradise fans still could be in for a treat as Selwyn Patterson’s (portrayed by Don Warrington) fate remains uncertain. Bookies were betting on Danny John-Jules’s comeback as Officer Dwayne Myers. Sara Martins, known for her role as Camille Bordey, had also been tipped for a comeback.

In last week’s heart-wrenching episode, the Commissioner confessed to his team: “There is also a second apology I have to make,” reports the Express. He revealed a burdensome secret, admitting: “I have been keeping something from you which… on the advice of a trusted friend, I have decided to share with you all. The position of Saint Marie’s Police Commissioner is being phased out, and I am being phased out.”

When Naomi (Shantol Jackson) protested, “They can’t,” Selwyn soberly responded, “I am afraid they can, and they are.” As viewers grapple with Selwyn’s potential exit, bookmakers are making predictions about potential character returns to the beloved Caribbean island.
