Death in Paradise replaced in BBC schedule shake-up but there is some good news for fans
Death in Paradise has been replaced on the BBC schedule in a major shakeup, following the conclusion of its latest season
Death In Paradise fans have bid farewell to their beloved show after its last episode aired on Friday, March 28 and now there’s a big BBc schedule shake-up.
The crime drama, which has captivated audiences with its mysterious murders on the idyllic Saint Marie, is making way for the return of the TV panel show Have I Got News For You at 9pm on Fridays and the new comedy-drama Austin at 9:30pm starting on April 4.
Interestingly, Austin will feature Ben Miller, who is familiar to Death in Paradise fans as DI Richard Poole, ensuring viewers can still enjoy the talents of the 59-year-old actor and comedian.
However, those yearning for more escapades under the ‘Paradise’ banner now have Beyond Paradise, which aired at 8pm on BBC One on March 28. Despite a recent change in its cast, Death in Paradise has continued to be a fan favourite, with Don Gilet stepping into the role of the quintessential fish-out-of-water British detective during the 2024 Christmas special.
Gilet’s inaugural season as DI Mervin Wilson has seen him delve into the mystery surrounding his birth mother’s demise.
While the BBC has not officially confirmed a 15th season for the hit series, Don hinted at future developments during an appearance on Lorraine earlier this year, suggesting a return to Guadeloupe for filming. As reported by Radio Times, he mentioned: “Unfortunately, it is about April time, end of April,” reports the Express.
When questioned about his earlier comment, Don explained that his reluctance to escape to the sunshine for filming was “just meant for the people I am going to leave”.
Death in Paradise has enjoyed a successful run with Don at the helm as the British detective in Saint Marie since the 2024 Christmas special. His first full season explored the mysterious death of DI Mervin Wilson’s birth mother.
The plot took a dramatic turn with the replacement of Commissioner Don Warrington, who initially attempted to shut down the investigation into the death.
This sparked fan speculation about the potential return of Selwyn, particularly after a new clip showed discussions about the Commissioner’s role and his trip to Jamaica.
When asked about Selwyn’s reaction to the news, Don told The Mirror: “Not well. It’s shocking for him, and he does his best to get the superiors to change their decision and see things differently … It’s very interesting because we discover other aspects of Selwyn and that’s always the joy about playing a character like him – there are so many different sides to him.
“You think you know about somebody but due to life events, you learn more about them. He’s opening up, he’s a bit like a flower coming in to bloom.”
