Death In Paradise ‘reveals’ Dwayne’s true reason for surprise return as dad arrives
Death In Paradise is set to welcome back a familiar face this festive season, as Dwayne Myers' father Nelson will make his first appearance on the BBC series
The festive special of Death In Paradise is set to deliver a twist with the return of Nelson, father of the much-loved character Dwayne.
Detective Inspector Don Gilet is stepping onto the scene for the Christmas festivities as DI Mervin Wilson, taking over duties from DI Neville Parker (portrayed by Ralf Little) who jetted off with his sweetheart Florence Cassell around the Caribbean.
Nelson is making a comeback to the tropical climes. The return of Dwayne in the previous series followed Marlon Pryce’s sudden exit, as he left to be with his sister, who was heading to Jamaica for her education.
Receiving a warm reception from Commissioner Selwyn Patterson and DS Naomi Thomas, Dwayne was quickly accepted back into the fold. However, Darlene Curtis, Dwayne’s past love, was notably cool about his return.

Upon re-joining the team, Dwayne mentioned his dad would arrive on the island soon, yet he chose to get there first to lend a hand to Saint Marie’s police force, reports Wales Online.
Dwayne later confided in Darlene the real reason he returned: his father was unwell. “Really? I understand doc,” said Dwayne over the phone. When prodded by Darlene regarding his father’s condition, he confirmed his father would land the following day.
Under further questioning from Darlene about the doctor’s words, Dwayne revealed, “The old goat doesn’t have as much life left in him as I’ve been making out, but that’s why I’m really back. This is where he wants to spend the rest of his days.”

However, is it possible that Dwayne has returned for a completely different reason? We know he’s close to his dad, but women have always been the main focus for Dwayne in past series. Could Darlene be the real reason for Dwayne’s return?
In the Christmas episode, we’ll see Don Warrington back as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, along with Shantol Jackson (DS Naomi Thomas), Ginny Holder as Officer Darlene Curtis, Danny John-Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers and Elizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey.
This holiday season, viewers can look forward to Mervin (Don Gilet) stirring things up as he attempts to solve the murders of three unrelated men, all found dead in Santa Claus outfits. His investigative methods don’t quite mesh with the team, while Dwayne faces some domestic issues when his Christmas with his father doesn’t go as planned – but what exactly happens?
