Death in Paradise shares first look at the Commissioner’s replacement
He'll arrive in Friday's episode.
Death in Paradise has shared a first look at Commissioner Selwyn Patterson’s replacement.
The latest episode of Death in Paradise saw Don Warrington’s beloved Commissioner, who has appeared since the show’s very first episode, confirm that he would be leaving the Saint Marie police force in less than a week, with someone else set to replace him.
It’s now been confirmed that he will be replaced by Sterling Fox, played by Holby City‘s Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge, who makes his debut in Friday’s episode (March 7).

Sterling arrives in a flash car and tells Commissioner Selwyn that his office is “cute”.
In the following episode, the character will reportedly try to shut down DI Mervin Wilson’s (Don Gilet) investigation into the suspicious death of his mother, though it’s not clear what his motivations are.
It’s still not clear whether Sterling will be a permanent fixture on the show or if Selwyn is really leaving for good, which would be sure to devastate fans.
When previously asked whether the turn of events this season could lead to his character’s departure, Warrington told Radio Times: “Well, who knows? Anything can happen in this life.”

Meanwhile, Gilet recently commented on Selwyn’s future on the show, telling Digital Spy: “I really can’t give too much about Selwyn, because that’s for Selwyn to say.
“In terms of his role there, [for the] audience and his role there as a character, profoundly, [it’s asking] what would it mean for him to not be there anymore as an influence?”
The actor elaborated further and expressed the importance of Warrington’s role, saying: “It means a lot. His part on Saint Marie is as instrumental as any new detective or any detective leading something.
“They need to have that extra energy, that ‘all knowing’ energy, and I really don’t want to say too much about that because it’s not for me to answer, but his presence is very much needed, otherwise he wouldn’t still be there, in whatever capacity.”
