Death in Paradise’s Josephine Jobert’s exit explained as fans brand her star of show
Death in Paradise star Josephine Jobert portrayed Florence Cassell in the BBC crime drama and has left the show on numerous occasions
Death in Paradise, the popular BBC One show, has seen many memorable characters come and go. Josephine Jobert joined the cast in 2015, but first bid farewell to the series in 2019.
However, she couldn’t stay away for long, making a comeback in seasons 10 and 11, and even surprising fans with a return in 2024 when her character emerged from witness protection.
In a video message to her fans, she explained that her initial departure was due to personal and professional reasons, assuring them it was “nothing dramatic”. She said: “Everything is fine it’s just that I’ve been working on Death in Paradise for five years. I loved every minute of it.
“I’m going to miss the show, I’m going to miss Toby and Ardal and Shyko and everyone so it’s been a tough decision, but that’s life.”
Believing she had closed the chapter on the detective drama, she found herself drawn back to the series, as she revealed to Hello! about her season 10 return.
“I already left in series eight, I thought it would be for good, honestly, I thought, ‘I’m done,'” she confessed. “Then they asked me back for series ten as I was like, ‘Hmmm I don’t know, okay I’m going to do it.’ But I knew it wouldn’t be forever, I knew it. How long, I didn’t know. I had an idea but I wasn’t sure.”
She also hinted at a potential appearance in the spin-off series, Beyond Paradise, revealing it was a possibility she had discussed with the producer. “We’ll see if that will happen. But I would love to anyway. It would be a very nice wink,” she expressed.
Fans took to Reddit to express their adoration for the French starlet, with Kooky-Minimum-2597 posting: “She’s the heart and soul of the show, it’s never quite the same without her.”
Seasuighim chimed in: “I always hoped she would have a turn being detective after being promoted.”
Meanwhile, GiftedGeordie lamented: “I really miss her, honestly. While I do like Naomi, I really would have loved if Florence had become the first non-English DI in the show; especially with her experience and smarts.”
And making a striking claim, TheOnionWatch declared: “IMO after Humphrey, she is THE character of DiP.”
