Death in Paradise’s Kris Marshall demands on-screen reunion with all five lead detectives
Kris Marshall has admitted that he would love to see all five lead detectives from 'Death in Paradise' meet up on-screen and that he would love an "oddities" reunion
Kris Marshall is calling for a detective’s reunion from ‘Death in Paradise’.
The 51-year-old actor, who became a familiar face in the popular BBC One comedy-drama as Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman since January 2014, has revealed his hope to see all past and present lead detectives come together on the small screen.
Having taken over from Ben Miller’s character Richard Poole, Kris made waves until season six before exiting the show to explore a new chapter with Martha Lloyd (portrayed by Sally Bretton) in London.
Since then, Ardal O’Hanlon, Ralf Little, and the latest lead Don Warrington have all stepped into the role, but Kris confessed to Radio Times magazine that they don’t keep in touch via a WhatsApp group chat. He expressed his desire: “There’s no WhatsApp group, but I would love some kind of reunion where all five of us meet up on-screen.”
Excitement builds as Kris is set to return as DI Goodman in ‘Beyond Paradise’, the third season of ‘Death in Paradise’s spin-off, premiering on March 28. The series follows him as he embraces life in the fictional Saint Marie and moves to Shipton Abbott, Devon, where his fiancee Martha lives.
Discussing what it’s like to film the show in the UK, Kris enthused about the perks of shooting in such locations: “We exist in a world with so many unknowns, so to have a job where we get to film in a location like this… it’s joyous.” He added a personal touch to his experience: “Plus, I’m a coastal person, so living down here for five months of the year is a delight.”
Kris has hinted that the upcoming series will give fans a deeper look into Humphrey and Martha’s personal lives, while ensuring his character keeps his quirky traits. The actor, who began his journey on the show – which is now wrapping up its 14th season on Friday, March 28 – at the age of 40, shared: “We learn more about Humphrey and Martha’s home lives.
“Also, I started filming ‘Death in Paradise’ 11 years ago. I’m now in my early ’50s. We retain an element of Humphrey’s oddities – I never want to lose them – but I’m always thinking and firing off new ideas to Tony [Jordan, the series creator].”
When asked how much of himself he sees in Humphrey, Kris admitted: “Well, there’s an element of the tall, posh guy. I’m tall but not that posh in reality.
“There is an element of existing on the fringes of everything about him that’s definitely me. He’s happy to tread his own path without apologising too much. Plus, there are parts of an old uncle I had and also just people I see in the street.”
