The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) and Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) announced plans to leave the Emmerdale village in tonight’s episode.

A few days ago, Brenda discovered that she had won a three month cruise in a competition from a magazine. Speaking to Nicola (Nicola Wheeler), Brenda was initially reluctant to accept the prize.

With a glamourous holiday up for grabs, Nicola concluded that she’d be able to take Brenda’s tickets, and go with Jimmy (Nick Miles) instead.

Once Brenda realised what Nicola was up to, she revealed that she’s going to be going after all. This was a hint, but Nicola did not get it. Instead, she decided that meant she could take the other ticket and go with her friend.

The thought of spending three months with Nicola was practically unbearable for Brenda.

Taking control in tonight’s episode, Brenda approached Nicola and Jimmy and told them she’s going on holiday – but she’s going to take Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling) with her.

And suffice to say Nicola was not impressed.

Vanessa speaks to Mary in Emmerdale

Elsewhere in the village, Mary was having a chat with Rhona (Zoe Henry) about leaving to stay with her sister – albeit for a brief period.

Mary’s friendship with Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) fell apart when she discovered Mary was the person Suzy (Martelle Edinborough) had kissed before she died.

The beloved character decided giving Vanessa some space would be best, and also told Rhona that she needs to focus on rebuilding her family.

Rhona was gutted but given everything the clan has gone through with April (Amelia Flanagan), she understood what her mum was trying to say.

The mother and daughter reassured each other and said they’d be on the other end of the phone whenever they needed a chat. It was a bittersweet moment, but Rhona respected Mary’s wishes.

And perhaps her time away will help Mary grieve for Suzy too.
