Emmerdale double exit sealed in sad twist – but fans left baffled

There were big hints about two looming exits on Emmerdale on Tuesday night, but fans were a bit confused.
Brenda Walker and her stepdaughter Cathy Hope both discussed big life changes that could see them exit the village for good. It comes amid the news that Brenda would be bowing out of the show, with actress Lesley Dunlop apparently written out.
With it yet to be revealed if her onscreen and offscreen partner Eric Pollard, played by actor Chris Chittell, will also depart, new scenes have revealed what her exit plot will be. At the same time Cathy who is making an exit of her own teased her hopes for the future.
Cathy actress Gabrielle Dowling will soon be taking a break from the role for her studies, after 18 years on the ITV soap. In a scene on Tuesday night we saw the pair discussing the future, as Cathy shared her hopes to pursue a new avenue and step away from college.
Brenda told her to do whatever she needed to do, as Cathy talked about a hospitality course she hoped to go on. Cathy thanked Brenda “for everything”, in scenes that almost felt like a goodbye.

It had been revealed that Brenda winning a three-month cruise in a competition would be how she leaves. With her deciding on Tuesday to go for it, having initially turned it down, it certainly seemed to suggest her exit was happening very soon.
But as Nicola King tried her best to get the cruise off of Brenda, even trying to go with her, fans were a bit confused. As for Cathy we heard no more, but it could well be that this course is away from the village and that’s why she leaves.
Fans were wondering how Brenda’s exit would be permanent though given the cruise is only for three months. One fan said: “So Brenda’s exit is a three month world cruise.
“What happens after three months? She’s living in another country in a new relationship maybe?” Another fan said: “I’m shaking thinking about ar Brenda’s cruise trip… poor Brenda… evil Nicola looms.”

Other fans were more distracted about the fact Nicola was keen to go on the trip so much so that she was willing to go as Brenda’s plus one. But with Nicola pushing the suggestion that her and Brenda were close friends, fans were wondering if they had missed something.
One viewer said: “Since when is Nicola Brenda’s best friend?” as another said: “Since when was Nicola and Brenda even friends let alone besties?” A third agreed: “Since when has Brenda been your best friend Nicola.”
Viewers will have to keep watching to see when Brenda leaves and who goes with her.
