Emmerdale fans were completely taken aback after hearing the real voice of a Dingle icon for the very first time.
Actress Jane Cox became a household name through her portrayal of the venerable Dingle matriarch Lisa, first appearing on the show in 1996. Lisa was cherished for her warmth and stoicism amidst many challenging moments, making her one of the most memorable and adored characters on the soap.
She experienced several high-profile storylines, including her treasured marriage to Zak (Steve Halliwell) and giving birth on Christmas Day in 1998 – with plenty of drama throughout her life in the Dales.
Despite the hurdles Lisa and Zak’s marriage faced, their relationship hit rock bottom when Zak’s infidelity with Joanie Wright (Denise Black) came to light, triggering their initial split. Fans eventually rejoiced as the couple found their way back to each other.

Yet in 2019, Jane Cox decided to bid farewell to Lisa Dingle and exited Emmerdale permanently, expressing at the time her desire to “do different things”. In a heartbreaking exit, the character of Lisa died on what should have been a joyous wedding day to Zak, succumbing to a terminal heart condition known as amyloid.
However, away from the soap, fans have been astonished recently upon hearing Jane’s actual voice. After an interview featuring Jane surfaced on YouTube, one viewer expressed their revelation, commenting: “I’ve been watching for years and didn’t realise how different Lisa sounds!”, reports Leicestershire Live.
Another person was taken aback, remarking: “Omg she has a posh accent.” Another joined in with surprise, saying: “WOW Jane sounds so different.” Joining the choir of astonishment, someone added: “She always did a brilliant accent and was one of the original besties!” Then another comment surfaced: “Jane’s accent is sooo different than Lisa’s.”
Since her departure from the show in October 2019, Jane has been heading down a new path, delving into the world of reflexology. In a candid chat with Inside Soap, she opened up about leaving the door open to future acting gigs while embracing some downtime. Jane expressed: “I’m available for acting roles, but at the moment I’m just chilling which is a luxury for me.”
