Emmerdale’s Tom King’s lawyer Ollie is related to a village resident in a massive DNA twist, fans have speculated.
The soap newbie, played by Alistair Toovey, was introduced this year as a friend of Tom’s (James Chase). After his wife Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) attacked him with an axe in self-defence, Tom has since employed Ollie as his lawyer. As viewers will remember, Tom tormented Belle for months before she finally escaped.
However, after attacking Tom, she now faces the possibility of jail time. This is exactly what Tom and his lawyer Ollie are aiming for.
But last week, someone vandalised Tom’s car after he was released without charge following another police interview about his abuse towards Belle. In Monday’s episode (November 4), Tom was discovered battered and bruised outside a church, claiming he had been assaulted.
He declined to go to A&E or involve the police, stating that he didn’t see who attacked him. It was later disclosed that Tom had asked Ollie to attack him in an attempt to frame Belle’s brother Sam Dingle (James Hootoon), reports Leeds Live.
However, a jittery Ollie suggested that it might be time for Tom to find a new lawyer. But Tom turned threatening and vowed to use some leverage he has over Ollie unless he continued to cooperate. Tom seemed to imply that he knew a secret about Ollie that could be exposed if he backed out.
Emmerdale enthusiasts reckon they’ve cracked the case on Ollie’s ‘true’ identity, suggesting he’s got family ties in the Dales. On an Emmerdale Facebook fan group, one eagle-eyed viewer speculated: “What if solicitor Ollie is Tom’s half brother? His mum Colleen could have had an affair years ago with Ollie’s dad? “.
The theory has caught on, with another fan chiming in: “Yes! And Tom’s been blackmailing and abusing him all this time as well.” Another added their two pence, saying: “I don’t think he’s dodgy, and that would make sense if they were related.”
Adding fuel to the speculative fire, a fourth fan remarked: “That would be a good twist, I think it will be him that brings Tom down, someone no one is expecting.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
