Former Emmerdale actress Jacqueline Pirie has finally spoken out as Samantha Power takes over her iconic role as Tina Dingle in the ITV soap.
Jacqueline gave an unforgettable performance as Zak and Nellie Dingle’s daughter from 1994 to 1996, leaving viewers gripped with her most memorable storyline in 1995, where she faked a pregnancy and planned to marry Luke McAllister (played by Noah Huntley), leading to tragic consequences when he died in a van crash after uncovering the truth. Tina waved goodbye to the village in 1996.
As the Dingles gathered to bid farewell to Zak during his funeral on Thursday (October 17) in an emotional hour-long episode, fans were hit by another shock when Tina Dingle turns up unannounced, this time portrayed by Samantha Power, causing quite the stir among her on-screen family.
Reacting to the big comeback on X, once known as Twitter, Jacqueline, who now goes by Jacqueling Chadwick, wrote: “So many questions regarding Tina Dingle’s return. Great character, great show. I wish @sampower_sam all the best, I loved playing her, I’m sure she will too, great cast to be a part of and, no… they didn’t ask me # emmerdale #tinadingle #dingle.”
One supporter voiced their opinion saying, “nothing on the lady who was cast but they should have asked you back you was outstanding as the character every emmerdale fan feels the same x.”, reports Leeds Live.
Another chimed in questioning, “If they asked you would you have come back?”. A third social media user exclaimed: “Tina was iconic. To have original Tina back would have been awesome.” Meanwhile, a fourth added: “A very classy post. Tina was a great character -more nuanced than some Dingles- and well acted.”
After waving goodbye to Emmerdale, Jacqueline made her way back onto the screen as Linda Sykes, gracing Coronation Street for five years and becoming quite the Weatherfield heartthrob.
These days, Jacqueline has traded the glitter of TV fame for the pen of an author. The mother-of-two is blissfully hitched to hubby Simon Chadwick, and they’ve nestled down in Canada with their family.
From her Vancouver base, the ex-soap sensation has been making waves with her gripping crime novels. She’s penned a trio of thrillers; ‘In The Still’, ‘Briefly Maiden’, and ‘Silent Sisters’.
Each page-turner revolves around her protagonist, Ali Dalglish, an ex-forensic psychologist turned domestic goddess, who gets tangled up in chilling murder mysteries.
Not just a literary talent, Jacqueline moonlights as an entrepreneurial spirit, having launched successful drama schools like the Jacqueline Chadwick Academy of Performing Arts.
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
