Emmerdale’s Joe Tate closes in on Anthony murder secret – and action is taken

While those involved in Anthony’s (Nicholas Day) disappearance from Emmerdale have been working admirably to keep it all secret and protect each other, someone was always going to slip up.

Suspicious Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) has been on the case, digging through the warehouse to try and find dirt on Caleb Miligan (William Ash) and Steph Miligan (Georgia Jay). So far, he has come up with nothing, but he goes to awful lengths to try and uncover the truth.

Steph has not been in a good place since finding out her grandad is her dad, and her mum is also her sister.

It looked for a moment that Steph was going to blow everyone’s cover when she confessed half of the story to Ross Barton (Michael Parr). But Jai has clocked that she is the weak link, and he jumps on it.

She was sent on a terrible spiral when someone decided to play games and send flowers as if from Anthony.

She freaks out and starts to believe Anthony isn’t dead after all, but it’s Jai who’s really behind it, and he eventually confesses. This prompts Ruby (Beth Cordingly) to reveal Anthony’s abuse to make him back off. Jai is left uncharacteristically embarrassed by the harm he’s caused.

But Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) has witnessed this interaction, and it piques his interest while Steph really loses her grip.

The family find her out in the woods trying to dig up Anthony’s body. But then they notice a key feature of Anthony’s burial site – the soil appears to be undisturbed. This adds fuel to the theory that perhaps he is alive after all.

Joe is intrigued by what he witnessed and is now set on ingraining himself in the Fox-Milligan’s family affairs. Caleb notices this and decides to keep his enemies close by inviting him over for lunch.

It’s a mistake for Joe, as he accidentally leaves his coat behind with his pills in the pocket, causing him to panic.

When Steph tries to hand the coat back, the pills fall out of the pocket and Caleb watches with intrigue as Joe furiously tries to stuff them back in.

So now Caleb is onto a secret of Joe’s, while Joe is onto a secret of his. Caleb decides to explore further and orchestrates it so that Noah Dingle (Jack Downham) has to come over to fix a light, where he grills the lad on his brother.

When Noah reveals flashbacks of being spiked, Caleb starts to put two and two together – the case of his lost kidney. Meanwhile, Joe is working hard to get to the bottom of Anthony’s disappearance, who will uncover the secret first and what will they do with it?
