Emmerdale’s Robert Sugden ‘to put stop to John’ as actor ‘lets slip’ huge soap spoiler

Emmerdale fans were overjoyed last night as Ryan Hawley reprised his role as Rob Sugden after six years - and he may have let an accidental spoiler slip on Lorraine

It was a monumental night in Emmerdale last night, as Ryan Hawley reprised his role as Robert Sugden after six years. The fan favourite made his shock return during the wedding of his ex-husband, Aaron Dingle and his half brother, John Sugden.

Shortly after his appearance aired, the Mirror exclusively revealed that he was back for good, with Ryan repeating the confirmation on Lorraine this morning. The TV host couldn’t hide her excitement when Ryan told her he was back in his role “indefinitely” but that’s not the only thing he let slip.

During the interview Ryan teased: “Roberts back. He’s coming back to try and win Aaron back, he’s going to put a stop to John.”

Lorraine then quipped in by saying: “He’s going to try,” as Robert corrected himself by saying: “He’s going to try!” The suspected ‘slip up’ didn’t go unnoticed by fans, as one took to X, formerly known as Twitter to write: “and he will put a stop to John! that was a little slip up, wasn’t it? he corrected himself immediately because we´re not supposed to know just yet.”

Fans have been fearing for Aaron as John was revealed to be responsible for multiple worrying going ons in the village, including the death of Cain’s son Nate Robinson – with some thinking Rob will be back to “save” his ex from his half brother. Has Ryan revealed this to be the case?

Previously speaking about his return to the Mirror, Ryan said: “The secret is out today! My character is returning permanently and not just for Aaron and John’s wedding. I am back for good, and I am so excited to be playing Robert again.”

The star went onto explain that he had been asked to return in the past to reprise the iconic role, but it had “never felt quite right” to do so.

“Recently, while I was living in Brazil with my family, where we had been for the past year, Danny texted to see how I would feel. We’ve always kept in touch, and after a lot of thought, I told him, ‘Yeah, I am up for it. ’ I then got a call swiftly from the producers, and it went from there,” he added.

Ryan confirmed that he’s now moved back to the UK permanently to be in the soap. Emmerdale tried their upmost best to keep Ryan’s return a secret, although rumours did start spreading in previous weeks. They even went as far as using the name ‘Marco’ on scripts after a man Aaron briefly dated.

Fans will have to wait and see what other twist and turns Robert brings…
