John panics in Emmerdale as Cain edges closer to the truth about Nate

John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) was all about the positive vibes in tonight’s episode of Emmerdale.
Last week, the character decided to apply for a job as a paramedic at the local hospital. He had effectively been demoted to receptionist duties at the surgery, and wasn’t willing to take on the role given he’s a qualified medical professional.
Before John attended his interview in tonight’s episode, he popped into the shop to collect a ‘Congratulations’ card. He explained to Tracy (Amy Walsh) that he sometimes does this as a little treat for himself later in the day, a bit like manifestation.
Putting aside the fact she found it a bit odd, the card prompted Tracy to mention that she had also written in one recently, for Nate (Jurell Carter).

Tracy couldn’t help express her frustration towards the situation with Nate. As far as she is concerned, Nate disappeared towards the end of last year and doesn’t want anything to do with his family. It’s left her facing challenges from Frankie, who doesn’t understand where her dad has gone.
As she ranted, John was forced to listen, hiding the fact that he is the reason her partner is lying dead at the bottom of a lake.
John’s guilt increased in this moment, but he quickly left so Tracy didn’t get suspicious.

While John was at his interview, Tracy was chatting to Cain (Jeff Hordley) about Nate. The fact his son has just upped and left his partner and child annoyed Cain a great deal, and he was pushed to try and do something about it.
Later, once he was back from the hospital, John was seen opening the card in his van. The message from Tracy saw her thank John for making her smile on a difficult day, which made him feel terrible.
John pulled Nate’s phone from a box and noticed a voicemail on it. It was from Cain but just as John listened, he was startled when the phone rang again.
He answered but didn’t say a word. The silence was filled with Cain, who hoped Nate would talk to him soon.
In future episodes of the ITV soap, a frustrated Cain will decide to go to Shetland, hoping he can find Nate himself.
But what will he do next when he returns and announces to his family that his son is nowhere to be found?
