John’s anger explodes in early Emmerdale ITVX release as he lashes out with weapon

The following article contains spoiler from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.
John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) has, for the first time, shown he has severe anger issues.
The mysterious character arrived to the Dales last year, and has established himself as a helpful member of the community. He works at the surgery and is engaged to Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), and often jumps at the chance of assisting someone if they are in danger.
When tonight’s instalment opened, Aaron noted that John was talking in his sleep again. He picked up on his partner saying ‘sorry’, and wondered what he has to apologise for.
John quickly covered, and said he’d been experiencing nightmares ever since the ordeal with Anthony, which saw the former army medic dispose of his body.
Arriving at work, John got settled into his shift and then found Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) in a bad way. Kerry had been out drinking yesterday, so it looked as though she just had a hangover.
John attempted to send Kerry on her way with some advice to rest, but Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) then witnessed her feeling dizzy.
Liam asked John a few questions, and it quickly became apparent he hadn’t done the right checks on Kerry, because he assumed she was just hungover. Liam later revealed that Kerry has diabetic ketoacidosis, and needs to go to the hospital.
If Liam hadn’t turned up and witnessed Kerry feeling unwell, a distracted John would’ve sent her home with her life in danger.

Back at the flat, John ranted to Aaron about Liam and reckoned he completely humiliated him at the surgery.
Aaron tried to comfort John, but he concluded that he needed to go for a walk and clear his head.
As night fell, John was seen at the scrapyard. After ending a call to Aaron, John proceeded to unleash his anger and smash a car to pieces.
It was a worrying development, but it marked the start of a storyline that will eventually allow us to see the real John Sugden.
‘Since enigmatic and inscrutable John Sugden arrived on our screens last summer, he’s managed to hide some pretty big secrets from his family and friends,’ producer Laura Shaw revealed.
‘As his clandestine acts are revealed, the audience has an opportunity to really get inside John’s mind and to finally understand exactly what this mysterious character is really about.’
