Kim Tate (Claire King) took a risk in tonight’s episode of Emmerdale and told Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) that she had planted an audio bug in his room.

Kim has been suspicious of Joe ever since he returned to the village at Christmas. His comments about family, reconnecting with Noah Dingle (Jack Downham), and his ability to be a generally okay human being left Kim convinced it was a massive cover up.

With that, she decided to plant a listening device in Joe’s room.

Kim has spent the past few weeks listening back to conversations Joe has had, primarily while on the phone. Frustratingly though, nothing untoward has cropped up.

With that, she chose to confront Joe in tonight’s episode, taking a risk by confirming she had bugged his bedroom.

Kim explained why she did it, but then said she’s concluded Joe isn’t hiding anything and now, they can safely trust each other without any issues.

Pleased with the situation, Joe headed off to the accountants.

While alone, Kim explained to Home Farm cleaner and best mate Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) that she still believes Joe is up to no good, but needs to approach the matter from a different angle.

Kim told Lydia that she needed a spy, someone who is in Home Farm all of the time, practically hidden in plain sight.

As the penny dropped, Lydia smiled, ready to take on her new role.

We know that Joe is definitely planning something, and is also experiencing health issues.

He – according to Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) – was also the person who spiked Noah with drugs last week, but when will we find out the truth?

And how deadly will his plot be?
