The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

In a twist we certainly didn’t expect, Emmerdale’s Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) and Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) are engaged.

It’s a shock to us because we certainly thought they’d spend a little bit more time together before deciding they should be husband and wife, but when you know, you know, apparently.

Gabby and Vinny recently moved into Dale View. Because Gabby has decided the place needs redecorating, she doesn’t want son Thomas in the house all day inhaling paint fumes.

But with Gabby a busy business woman, she keeps turning to Vinny for childcare.

Vinny doesn’t mind looking after Thomas, but the longer it’s gone on for, the more he’s been thinking about whether he’d like to become a father.

Opening up to mum Mandy (Lisa Riley), Vinny admitted that he’s scared about turning into his abusive dad.

He had convinced himself that the signs were already there because he shouts at Thomas, but Mandy told her son there’s a great deal of difference between what Paul was like, and Vinny telling a young boy off because he’s been naughty.

Vinny’s reluctancy to tell Gabby about his thoughts ultimately caused them problems in tonight’s episode. Once Mandy learnt about Vinny’s comments regarding not wanting to be a dad, she told Gabby exactly why he felt like that.

At the scrapyard, Gabby did her best to reassure Vinny by reminding him that just because he shares genes with Paul, it doesn’t mean they are the same person.

The couple concluded that this was a small hiccup, and they still really want to spend their future together.

With that, Vinny then announced when you know, you really know…and proposed.

It was a surprising moment for us and for Gabby, but once she got Vinny to propose properly by getting down on one knee, she said yes.

Back in The Hide, an excited Gabby and Vinny announced their happy news to Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) and Mandy, but they didn’t do a very good job at hiding the truth on their faces.

It was suggested that Mandy and Laurel both think it’s a little early to get engaged, but are they right to be concerned about Gabby and Vinny moving too fast?
