BBC Death in Paradise fans ‘work out’ identity of Mervin’s brother and it’s not Solomon
Death in Paradise fans think Solomon is not Detective Mervin Wilson's brother.
Death in Paradise introduced viewers to Mervin Wilson’s brother, Solomon, on Friday night, but fans think something isn’t right. Despite wanting to get to know Solomon (played by Daniel Ward), the poor detective got a shock when his brother stole from him after he refused to lend him money.
At the end of the episode, Mervin (Don Gilet) and DS Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackson) got back to the shack, only to discover it had been raided.
“Sir, where are all your clothes?” Naomi asked. “And the record player and the records. Sir…you’ve had a break in.”
“No,” Mervin replied. “He’s cleared out the place.”
Following the episode, fans have been sharing their thoughts and theories about Solomon, and many don’t think he is Mervin’s brother at all.

“Is he even his real brother?” One fan asked while another commented, “I knew he was no good, poor Mervin.”
A third theorised, “That’s not his brother, it’s someone who’s pretending to be Solomon.”
Someone else went on, “Don’t think Sol is his brother, he’s an impostor.”
Another agreed, “I don’t think he is the brother. I think he is a chancer, Melvin assumed was his brother.”
In an exclusive interview with Reach PLC and other press, the actor who plays Mervin opened up about what it was like working with Daniel Ward, who plays his onscreen brother.

“It’s great working with Daniel,” Don began. “I didn’t realise until working with him, he also writes, so he’s one of those people who really loves to do a deep dive into the writing and the character.
“So it was really good to play with a guy who’s got a sense of where the writing comes from, the root of the writing. And it’s always great to work with actors who can take it off the page and run with it, and take the time to really form a 360 of the character.
“But I mean in terms of the characters we play, Mervyn and Solomon as brothers, couldn’t be any more opposed, which makes the drama, which makes the entertainment.”
Death in Paradise returns on Friday at 9pm on BBC One.
