‘Brilliant’ crime drama that Death in Paradise fans will love hailed a ‘must watch’
Death in Paradise fans are going to love this!
A new ITV series perfect for Death in Paradise fans will be hitting screens very soon – and it has a star-studded cast. ITVX will stream all episodes of the Eagle Eye produced Crime drama A Taste for Murder from May 13.
The story follows DCI Joe Mottram, played by Luther star Warren Brown, who takes a sabbatical following the sudden death of his wife, Sofia, in the hopes of reconnecting with his teenage daughter, Angelica (Beau Gadsdon).
For Joe, a summer visiting family in Italy was meant to offer refuge and a chance to heal broken family bonds. His in-laws, Chef Gennaro and Elena Da Vinale, run a beloved seaside restaurant, and they welcome Joe and Angelica with open arms.
Police work is the last thing on Joe’s mind, but when a local man’s body is found on a beach and Gennaro’s nephew and sous-chef, Luca, is arrested for murder, Joe can’t avoid getting involved in the investigation and soon finds himself clashing with local Inspector Lara Sarrancino, played by Cristiana Dell’Anna.
It seems murder follows Joe wherever he goes, and before long, he and Lara have formed a grudging partnership, solving a variety of unusual crimes on the island.
Along the way, Joe learns to cook, and his exploration of Italian dishes provides insights and clues into the crimes he is investigating. His lessons with Gennaro and Elena in the kitchen ultimately help him to become a better cook, father, and detective.
As the investigations deepen, the idyllic veneer of the island cracks, exposing a web of deception that forces Joe to confront a truth he never saw coming, and which turns his world upside down.
Rounding out the principal cast are Urbano Barberini as Gennaro Da Vinale, the gregarious patriarch of the Da Vinale family and legendary local chef; Alessandro Fella as Luca Da Vinale, Gennaro’s charming but ne’er-do-well nephew; Gaia Scodellaro as Daria, a local divorcee who works in the restaurant kitchen and Alessandro Bedetti as Daniele, a young lothario who falls in with Angelica and offers to show her the island.

A Taste for Murder is created and written by Matt Baker (Patience, Professor T, Hotel Portofino). The series is directed by Jon Jones (Hotel Portofino, Whitstable Pearl, Alex Rider) and produced by Megan Ott (House of the Dragon).
Fans also can’t wait to watch Warren, who starred as Detective Sergeant Justin Ripley alongside Idris Elba in Luther.
Writing on social media, one fan beamed, “Can’t wait, love, Warren Brown.”
Another penned, “Two mega actors on screen together, love it. So proud of you.”
While a third added, “Love Warren Brown ain’t seen him in anything bad to date so this gotta be worth a watch.”
