Death In Paradise fans have worked out a heartbreaking twist for DI Mervin Wilson. The BBC show was back tonight for another episode, based around a couples retreat – when the lead therapist is murdered.
We found out about Mervin’s brother Solomon in the last few episodes of the previous series, and things didn’t get off to a great start for the siblings this series when Solomon took all of Mervin’s things and sold them for cash.
It’s clear the brothers are completely opposite from one another, but Solomon made the trip from Antigua to Saint Marie to visit his sibling in the hope they could reunite and Mervin could finally understand his roots after his mum’s death.

Don Gilet – who plays DI Mervin Wilson – said of the new storyline with his brother: “It was a great emotional cliffhanger because at any moment in that series Mervin could have just said ‘that’s it, I’ve done my time’, and now he literally can’t go.
“The one thing he was in pursuit of at the start of this series was family and then to throw that in at the end, that he’s not alone… He’s powerless to resist that and he has to stay now for the next chapter in his family quest, because he thought he had no family. So how can he turn his back on that?”
Teasing what might happen next, Don added: “Well, I think phrases like ‘two peas in a pod’, do not apply… They couldn’t be more opposite. There’s Mervin and then there’s this guy who is on the opposite side of the tracks, potentially the opposite side of the law too… There’s just something that Mervin can’t quite put his finger on.

“He’s having to accept that whatever his notions were about what Solomon could be like, it might not be like that. Daniel Ward plays the character brilliantly.” But what happens next – and is this the end of their connection?
Fans of the BBC show are convinced there is something much more sinister at play. One fan noted: “I kinda believe Solomon is not Mervin’s brother but some sort of conman. I also feel like he might get murdered in episode 3 or 4 or something and they find out who his real identity is. #DeathInParadise.”
“I really hope Solomon is going to be more of a ‘loveable rogue who ends up in trouble’ than hardened criminal…but I’m currently highly suspicious #DeathinParadise,” a second added.
A third wrote: “Here’s hoping Solomon doesn’t have some ulterior motive. Solomon. Your brother is involved with the police. Don’t be an idiot,” with a fourth penning: “I just have this feeling, Solomon is not his brother but a scam artist. #DeathInParadise.”
