Death In Paradise first look as Cold Feet star joins cast for latest puzzling murder

Death In Paradise fans have been given an exciting first look at tonight's episode of the BBC series, as the team investigate a murder at a couples retreat

Death In Paradise fans can now get a first look at the new episode of the BBC series. A new set of episodes kicked off last week, which saw the Commissioner Selwyn Patterson return to his rightful place on the island.

Meanwhile, Darlene Curtis decided to quit her job and was replaced by the new recruit, Sergeant Mattie Fletcher – played by Catherine Garton. In the first episode of the series, DI Mervin Wilson ( Don Gilet ) and his team were tasked with finding out what really happened when a man died at the government offices in Saint Marie.

What initially seemed like a tragic suicide, it was soon revealed that someone had had a hand in the person’s sad death, with the Saint Marie police team, of course, cracking the case at exactly the right time.

This week, in an exclusive first look shared with The Mirror, the team are called in to offer their detective skills when a couples therapist is drowned at sea. With finger marks found around the victim’s neck, it’s clear there is foul play involved.

Suspicion soon shifts to her clients but all of them seem to have alibis. Elsewhere, Mervin is working hard to track down his brother Solomon and the possessions he stole from him – but will he be successful?

Hermione Norris – who starred on Cold Feet – is one of the guest stars confirmed for the new episode, whilst EastEnders actress Scarlett Alice Johnson also appears. Line of Duty star Ace Bhatti is in the new episode, as well as Lizzie Davidson (Such Brave Girls), Sean Delaney (Killing Eve) and Gary Wilmot as Anton Busette.

Speaking about the storyline with Solomon, Don – who plays Mervin – said: “There’s a part where Mervin loses a lot of his clothes and has to find substitute clothing. We’re used to this certain, let’s say, iconic look that he’s developed now, what he likes to wear, and then when we see him wear something else, it becomes amusing from a character perspective because he doesn’t want to wear it.

“That moment also isn’t jokes for the sake of it too, there’s a reason why you see Mervin in different clothes, as opposed to it simply being a cheap laugh. There are a few moments like that throughout the series.”

As well as Don Warrington, Elizabeth Bourgine – who plays Catherine Bordey – has been on the show since its start. Speaking of her character’s development over the years, she said: “There is always a different side that we can discover from Catherine. Her family, her past, her friends. What I love about Catherine is that she is a woman in her 60s who is independent and fighting for what she believes in, and I’m a little like that as well.

“I joke that I’m like the lawyer for Catherine because I’m always making sure that she represents someone, whether you’re a mother, grandmother, married or single, young or old, you can be an active member of your community, you can have fun flings and enjoy yourself no matter what age you are.”

She added: “It’s important that Catherine as a character reminds those who are watching to always pursue what they want. Both Catherine and I are very similar in that way. Very often in my life, when something unusual happens to me, I ask myself ‘What would Catherine do? What would she say?'”
