Ginny Holder returns to hit BBC drama after Death in Paradise exit

Death in Paradise star Ginny Holder portrayed Darlene Curtis for seven years before she quit before series 15

BBC Death in Paradise actor Ginny Holder has left the much loved and long-running series. The star, who played Darlene Curtis for seven years, will not be returning to Saint Marie when the show makes a comeback for season 15.

Darlene first appeared in series seven as Dwayne Myers’s love interest, and worked as the police station’s office admin. But she quickly and successfully trained to become a police officer and an integral member of the team.

Announcing Ginny’s departure, Death in Paradise said: “Sadly, we’re saying goodbye to Darlene this series. Ginny Holder has been a much-loved cast member, and we’re hugely grateful to her for bringing her talent to Officer Darlene Curtis. We wish her all the best – maybe we’ll catch up with her in Saint Marie in the future!”

What is Ginny Holder doing next?

Ginny has broken her silence on her Death in Paradise exit, telling her social media followers she loved Darlene “deeply,” and added: “Saying goodbye to her has been far more emotional than I ever expected – I really do miss her.”

And while Ginny hasn’t shared why she has left Death in Paradise, gutted viewers will be delighted to know that later this year they’ll be able to see her in another hit BBC drama as The Capture returns after a three-year hiatus.

The third series of the drama filmed in 2025, so scheduling could have played a part in her exit, although nothing has been confirmed. Ginny will return as DI Nadia Latif in The Capture, alongside Paapa Essiedu, who will be reprising his role as Isaac Turner, and Holliday Grainger, who stars as Rachel Carey.

Meanwhile, Indira Varma plays BBC News presenter Khadija Khan, Hugh Quarshie is Commissioner Cameron Yates, Linus Roache is Colonel Figgis, Ben Miles is Danny Hart, Lia Williams is Gemma Garland, Ron Perlman is CIA agent Frank Napier, Nigel Lindsay is DSI Tom Kendricks, and Tessa Wong as DC Chloe Tan.

The new series is coming to BBC iPlayer and BBC One this spring although an official date hasn’t been announced.

And whilst Ginny has left Death in Paradise, viewers can look forward to the arrival of Police Sergeant Mattie Fletcher, portrayed by actress Catherine Garton in the new series.

Talking about welcoming Mattie to the team, Don Gilet, who plays Mervin Wilson, said: “There’s definitely something of a rebel in Mattie. We haven’t had that rebellious element, really. She’s a bit younger, probably a similar age, give or take, to Officer Seb Rose, but she’s seen a lot more.

“She’s a sergeant and she’s more experienced and is always on the front foot, whereas Seb is going through his rookie stripes. It’s great seeing how the two of them connect – there’s a nurturing side as well as a rebellious side. She’s a great addition to the team.”
