Viewers sob over Beyond Paradise saying it ‘should have taken Mrs Browns’ Boys place’
BBC viewers were left in tears during the Christmas special of Beyond Paradise and fans have hit out at the broadcaster claiming it should have replaced Mrs Browns' Boys
BBC viewers have slammed the scheduling this Christmas – after saying a top show was put on at the wrong time. Beyond Paradise was perhaps not on the list of priorities for the BBC when it came to Christmas festive TV. But it now looks as though they may have made a mistake as viewers of the drama’s Christmas special were left “crying” their eyes out in one of the most emotional episodes of drama series to date.
The drama which is the spin off show of Death In Paradise, first aired two years ago. The show stars Kris Marshall as Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman, among a host of acclaimed actors and the Christmas special aired earlier this week. The episode took viewers on Detective Inspector Goodman’s journey to discover the identity of a man who is suffering with dementia. He had a picture of the policeman and claimed to know him.

The episode saw an elderly man living with dementia turning up on the police station steps, clutching only a photograph. The gentleman was searching for his lost sister with only precious few clues to her whereabouts.
The episode left a host of viewers tearful and they not only made their feelings known but some also said that it should have replaced the scheduling slot of Mrs Browns’ Boys. Taking to X, one person said: “#Beyondparadise ooh I am not crying.”
Another person added: “What have you done to me, I am a 49 year old man and I’m crying my eyes out, that is how you do a Christmas Episode, emotional, funny, heart, Selwyn!! Absolutely fantastic and Ade Edmondson is a National Treasure.”
A third person said: “Crying ugly tears at the #BeyondParadise Christmas special. So beautiful, poignant & emotional. I can’t handle it.” “Oh my goodness. I’m not crying, honestly I’m not”, said a fourth. Meanwhile a fifth viewer shared: “Crying and smiling throughout this episode. Just brilliant as always.” Some questioned the BBC’s decision making when it comes to Christmas TV shows.
One dismayed viewer said: “Just finished watching #BeyondParadise a nice harmless Christmas show with a great outcome. Question; Why didn’t the BBC schedule this for Christmas evening rather than Eastenders, Mrs Browns Boys and yet even more bloody celebrities in programmes?'”
Another said: “What a great episode the Christmas special was.” And a third added: “This was a lovely Christmas special.”
Speaking about the emotional episode, Kris explained to the BBC: “It’s such a personal story for Humphrey. A man turns up on his doorstep with a picture and we’re not sure why, but it soon becomes a deeply touching story.”
He added: “I find it becomes especially personal because of the eventual reason as to why he has Humphrey’s photograph – it’s a very Christmassy story that warms the cockles.”
