Death in Paradise confirms return as fan favourite reprises role in major announcement
Death in Paradise fans were left devastated as one beloved character left the show at the end of series 14
Death in Paradise seems to have hinted at the lasting comeback of Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (portrayed by Don Warrington ) after his emotional departure in the last series. The Commissioner chose to quit Saint Marie at the conclusion of series 14, following the loss of his position when another individual took over his role.
Nevertheless, when he was presented with the opportunity to reclaim his position, Selwyn opted to turn down the job proposal and depart Saint Marie to visit his daughter in the UK.
To viewers’ astonishment, the Commissioner subsequently featured in both the Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise festive episodes, where he was reunited with Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton).
Now, Death in Paradise has hinted at the character’s comeback through its recent Instagram update. Alongside footage of the Commissioner, the programme posted: “So that’s something to look forward to in the new year!”
In the Beyond Paradise excerpt, Selwyn inquired about whether his Saint Marie position remained open, according to the Express.
“Chief Commissioner, it is Selwyn Patterson,” the Commissioner declared. “Apologies for calling you during the holidays. But I wanted to know if you’ve found my replacement yet.
“I see…I have been doing some thinking, and I wondered if there was any chance of my returning to the role if it’s still vacant.”
Viewers were delighted by the recent development and flocked to the comments area to express their excitement about Selwyn’s comeback. Josephine Jobert, who portrayed Florence Cassell in the BBC drama, also chimed in with the comment, “He will always be the one and only!”
One enthusiast penned, “Love the Commissioner!! He can NEVER leave the Show.”
Another added, “Yes, Selwyn! Get back to Saint Marie and claim your spot!”
“Is @donbwarrington coming back? Oh, that’s lovely news! Just in time for the New Year,” another fan wrote.
Someone else expressed, “I’m sooooooo glad he’s coming back.”
Death in Paradise is available for viewing on BBC iPlayer.
